NHS South of Tyne and Wear is responsible for commissioning healthcare services for its local population. These services include hospital care, mental health services, general practitioners (GPs), screening programmes, dentists, pharmacies and opticians.

In making decision about access to services and treatments, we look at the needs of the population, people’s rights and expectation in relation to health care, clinical effectiveness, and the availability of resources.
